QUESTION: Hi, i would like to manufacture rooibos ice tea for south african market, could you please explain to me the production process fro water prepation to packaging. i intend using pet bottle for packaging.

QUESTION: Hi Jim,

Rooibos tea is mainly produced in Cape Town, South Africa, I spoke to two suppliers of rooibos tea extract in Cape Town, I am based in Pretoria which is 1500km from Cape Town. I spoke citric acid, preservatives, flavours suppliers. I am not totally blind but i strongly believe your expert advise will really help me. I really want to know exact process after water preparation between mixing all other ingredients to packaging.

QUESTION: Hi Jim

Rooibos extract is in form of powder.
Citric Acid is also in form of powder.
I would like my flavours to be water soluble.
We will also need preservatives i.e Potassium sorbate and Sodium benzoate.
We will also need sugar

I want you to help me to get the mixing of ingredients right, ratio of ingredients to be specific.

I worked for food industry before so i am not totally clueless but i need your manufacturing expertise.

Here are the steps for mixing the tea you would like to amke with the ingredient you listed.

1) Add Potassium Sorbate and Sodium Benzoate to water and mix until it is dissolve.

2) Add Rooibos powder to water nd mix until all is dissolved.

3) Add Sugar to the mixture fro number 1 and mix until all sugar is dissolve.

4) Add citric acid and mix for 20 minutes to disperss all of the acid.

5) Check Brix, pH and T/A to validate your product specifications.

6) Package via filler in your bottle, cap and case pack the nu,ber of bottles you want to pack in each case.
