Food Safety Issues - soup left out

Expert: Carl Copeland - 1/29/2008

Question
Hi.  I left some sausage and tortellini soup that I had just made out to cool on the stove and forgot to put it in the refridgerator before I went to bed.  It was out from 8pm to 6am.  Is it still ok to eat if I boil it for a while?  I was going to serve it tonight.  If not, looks like pizza!

Answer
Hello Andrea,
How are you doing?  Remember no food should be be left out over 2 hours after being cooked as bacteria will grow. If the temperature was 40 degrees or below you are fine. However boiling it will not get rid of the bacteria it has already formed in all my responses I leave it to the customer if an item is to be thrown away unless I am absolutely positive it will cause harm.
