Food Safety Issues - Refrigerator door open

Expert: Carl Copeland - 2/2/2008

Question
I made two vegetarian lasagnas for a big party tonight.  There's lots of cheese in it.  I put them, uncooked, in the refrigerator, and when I came down the next morning, the refrigerator door was open.  The food was still cold, but maybe not as cold as it should be.  should i discard it?  They were in a refrigerator for about 12 hours with the door slightly ajar.

Answer
Andrea,

I apologize for my delay in response. In reference to the vegetarian lasagnas, if the temperature was at 40 degrees or below everything is safe, the lasagna was still in the refrigerater. The refrigerator was working overtime and if the room was cool, you should be fine. Hopefully, it's a late party.
