I was taking some Palma ham back to university and was carrying it in a plastic bag, with a small ice pack. I forgot about it and it was in the plastic bag, within a backpack for about 50 hours. There was also a pack of salami (both were sliced but still in sealed vacuum packaging. Both no where near the dates for going off.
I have had mixed opinions on whether these are OK to eat or not? I have been storing them in the fridge for the last 48 hours while considering whether to eat or not... Please help!
Answer Henry,
I am sorry to give you the bad news. I am sure that the small ice pack didn't last too long. And 50 hours is too long for anything not to be refrigerated. Unless the temperature stayed at 40 degrees Fahrenheit or below I would get rid of the ham and salami.
