Food Safety Issues - cheesecake

Expert: Carl Copeland - 2/5/2008

Question
I bought a sugerfree cheesecake from figis.com
It was shipped 2-1-08 and was delivered 2-5-09. It was in a box with nothing else, no dry ice nothing. I called and they told me that the cheesecake would be fine to eat. Is this true? even the box said "keep refrigerated to maintain safety" Should I just toss it?

Answer
Amber,

How are you doing? Sugarfree is one thing, but it is cheesecake and that would make me think that there are some dairy products in the cake. Unrefrigerated for 3 days? It says to keep refrigerated, I would call back figis for another opinion or reason why it would be safe.  For more cake storage info please visit

Take Care,
Carl
