Food Safety Issues - Ham

Expert: Carl Copeland - 3/22/2008

Question
We got a smoked, fully cooked ham in December that is fully sealed.  My husband had it in the refrigerator in the garage.  He says it's safe to eat but i disagree.  Thanks for the help.

Answer
Ann,

How are you doing today?

You are probably right here are the suggested refrigerated storage times for ham

Ham, fully cooked vacuum sealed at plant, undated, unopened 2 weeks

Ham, fully cooked vacuum sealed at plant, dated, unopened "use by" date on package

Frozen hams can be kept for 1-2 months.
