Subject: unrefrigerated fresh ground turkey
Question I just discovered that I left fresh ground turkey out all night and morning. Can
i still cook it in a spaghetti sauce?
Answer Hi Julie,
Unfortunately, the recommendation is to not cook and consume meats that have been at room temperature over night. Ground meats and especially ground poultry is very susceptible to bacterial contamination and leaving it at room temperature gives it the perfect environment for the bacteria to grow. Since some bacteria produce a toxin that is not deactivated by cooking, the recommendation is to pitch the turkey.
Sorry...
Carol
