Food Safety Issues - Expired Baby Juice Products sold in Grocery Store

Expert: Chris Manley - 7/29/2008

Question
I have encountered multiple times, a local departmental store selling expired Gerber Baby Juice. First time, I did not notice it and ended up calling emergency when my kid drank the expired orange juice. I noticed again today that the departmental store is selling expired juices.

How do i go about loding a complaint against the departmental store and make sure that this does not happen in furture ?

Answer
The best thing you can do is notify the store.  We routinely check expiration dates of these items on inspections, but inspections may occur once per year or even less frequently depending on your State.  Always check the label in the store, and if you can't get a response from the store contact your local health department.
