Food Safety Issues - thermo bags

Expert: Carl Copeland - 9/16/2008

Question
Hi, I have 2 kids and I prepare their lunch from home. I normally cook food the day before.  From school they asked to heat their lunch every morning and then put it hot into a Thermos bag, in order to find it warm after 6 hours, at lunch time.  Is it safe to keep food warm into Thermos bags, for so many hours?  I appreciate your answer.
Regards, Rania

Answer
Rania,

How are you doing?  The question would have to be what is the temperature of the food at the time of consumption. Rule of thumb is that no cooked food reheated or not should be left out for over 2 hours.
