Question I have some garlic sausage that expired on Jan 9 09, it is vacuum sealed. is it safe to eat?, and for how long?
Thank-you.
Answer Jo,
How are you doing? The expiration date on the food product is put there by manufacturers who are given food storage time lines by the USDA and other regulatory agencies. I hate to admit but I have eaten some foods outside of the expiration date but I make it a habit to particularly freeze my meats before this date.
I am not going to tell you that it is safe to eat this item and will assure you that you cannot tell if meat products are good just by smell. I am not going to tell you to throw it away either, so what I am saying is be careful as this decision would be yours alone.
