Food Safety Issues - Frozen Strawberries

Expert: Carl Copeland - 1/25/2009

Question
I have 2 boxes of frozen strawberries that have a "best if used by" date of 10/18/08.  Would it still be safe to use the strawberries in a recipe that will be made on January 31, 2009?  Thank you.

Answer
Joan,

How are you doing?  The producer or manufacturer of this product is letting you know for best results and quality use by 10/18/08. I don't believe that the strawberries will be  bad but they might not have the quality that they would have had in October.

If I am making something for myself I would not hesitate, but if you are entertaining or taking the food to feed others I might get some more strawberries. For more fruit and vegetable storage information please visit

Take Care,
Carl C
