Food Safety Issues/non microwavable plastics

Today I accidently microwaved a non-microwavable bowl with plastic wrap on it that contained our leftovers.  To make a very long story short, I left my bowl on the counter and somehow microwaved the other.  The bottom says Dishwasher safe, non-microwavable, made on china.  It is plastic of some sort, maybe melamine, but I'm unsure.  This will sound awful but I went ahead and ate my lunch that was it in and wrapped the other cabbage rolls up for dinner in another container.  I normally don't eat anything heated in plastic but my husband would have died if I had thrown all that food away.

What should I do?

The risk from illness from eating food from a container that is not microwave safe is very low. I wouldn't eat what you have left since as a rule I never eat food when the safety has been compromised. From the Harvard Medical School health guide..It's been suggested that carcinogens (which cause cancer) will seep into your food. The FDA inspects all plastic bowls and containers, and those that are proven to not contain those carcinogens are marked "microwave safe". Those are COMPLETELY safe to use.
Ones that aren't marked "microwave safe" aren't necessarily bad; it just means that the FDA hasn't determined whether it's safe or not. If a bowl or container isn't marked "microwave safe", I'd avoid using it. However, once or twice won't hurt you, really.
