Question
How do you organize frozen food so you know what you have in it and the dates of each. I have a large freezer and when I clean it out I end up discarding many items. What is a good way to do this? I label and date items but forget what I put in the freezer. Thanks for your help.  bborzoi@msn.com

Answer
Barbara,

How are you doing?  It seems that you have the right concept you just need to organize a little better. I see that you label and date items but do you use the FIFO (First in First Out) method?  You should probably make sure that recent purchases are placed behind items that were already in the freezer.

You might also consider separating or categorizing items in your Freezer like vegetables, meats, poultry, fish etc. so when you are looking for something you know exactly where to look.  Barbara you really don't have a choice because when you throw away food you are throwing away money.

I tend to use storage containers that I can defrost, heat, and serve in which are more convienient.
