Food Safety Issues - Chicken

Expert: Carol Schlitt - 7/9/2007

Question
How long can you leave marinated chicken in the refrigerator in a tupperware container?
Also how long can you leave non-marinated chicken in the refrigerator??

Answer
Hi Jenn,

The maximum time for refrigerating marinated chicken is 2 days.  Please be aware that depending upon the ingredients in the marinade longer marinating may soften the texture of the chicken to an undesirable mushy state. It's best to follow the directions of the marinade and not extend the marinating time too long past the recommended time.

You can leave unmarinated chicken in the refrigerator 1 to 2 days for maximum safety and quality.

Carol
