Food Safety Issues - Fresh tuna, again

Expert: Carl Copeland - 11/8/2007

Question
I bought some sushi-grade tuna on five days ago (11/03) from the large Japanese supermarket nearby. The sell-by date on the packaging is 11/05. It has been sitting in my refrigerator since then and I intend to eat it raw. There is very slight discoloration but it still retains a pinkish hue. Is it still safe to consume?

Thank you

Answer
Steven,
Let's do the math, You have a sell by date of 11/05 and fish should be refrigerated 2-3 days. The Tuna is basically what I would call on the edge that is also considering especially after you confirmed the slight discoloration. I don't know if you repackaged or put the fish in a sealed container but it sounds like you would be need to eat it very soon if at all.  For Food Storage Info
