Food Safety Issues - Mico waved food that has been covered with plastic wrap

Expert: Mary Hughes-Cole - 10/20/2002

Question
We perodically microwave with a plastic wrap. There are no warnings that state "do not use in microwave or oven".  Question: Do you know of the safest plastic wrap to us to avoid ployvinyl chloride poisioning of our food? Or, do you recommed simplying purchasing microwave glass products and stay away from plastic wrap?

Thank you...Bob

Answer
Hello Bob,
Some our earliest research proved without a doubt that heating plastic containing food distributes the plastic molecules not only into the food but into the air as well.   If the food is consumed you not only get carcinogens into the blood stream by eating the food you also get them into your blood stream just by being in the same room while the heating is going on in the microwave or oven or whatever you used to heat the plastic. You have not only been poisoned by the plastic the research showed that this type of carcinogen inhibits the immune system.

There is no plastic that I am aware of that can be heated and used around food and be safe. Plastic molecules are not stable and can be dispersed into the air by any means of heat.  The sun heating plastic in your car is an example.  We always park in the shade, and this is Phoenix, it is not easy but we make the effort.
There are so many ways that plastic can get into your blood and lungs that I could be here all day explaining them all.  Do everything that you can to avoid this possibility of happening to you or your family.

My personal research was much ahead of what was being released to the general public when originally done and at a time when the oil cartels held all the power concerning plastic as it is made from oil.

Tell everyone you can and teach all that you can, as not everyone knows this; it is just now becoming common knowledge.  When we know something and fail to act on this knowledge then we might as well be playing on the freeway.

Good Luck, Mary
