Food Safety Issues/Peaches

Question
Why do peaches grow mold so quickly? I bought some peaches, and literally, by the second evening, mold. Is this kind of mold a concern?

Answer
Hi Jason,

Sorry to hear your peaches molded quickly.  Mold thrives in moist foods and ripe peaches do fit this description. Most peach producers dip their peaches in a fungacide to prevent the growth of mold and to extend shelf life. The grower/supplier of your peaches probably did not do this dip.

You are not doing anything wrong -- it's just a natural occurance with peaches. As fas as the mold, we do not recommend consuming soft fruits with mold as some people are sensitive.
