Food Safety Issues/Potato storage

Question
Hi Carol,
Is it ok to store potatoes in their original plastic bag?  I've always thought they
would rot faster.  I keep them in my pantry in a basket.  Does it matter?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Jennifer,

Potatoes store best when they have some air circulation. If left in the store plastic bag they tend to deteriorate faster due to the lack of air circulation.

If kept in the original bag it's best to poke a couple of holes before storage.

Hope this answers your question. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
