Food Safety Issues - From Supermarket to Home

Expert: Carol Schlitt - 9/12/2007

Question
Last night I went to the supermarket at 5:00pm.
I bought sliced deli ham and frozen waffles and frozen pizza.
I wasn't able to get home until 8:30pm because I had school.
The waffles and pizza had defrosted. The weather was warm but not hot.
Is it safe to re-freeze the waffles and pizza and eat later?
Is the ham still safe to eat?
Thank you.
Slonik.

Answer
Hi Slonik,

The recommendation is that if foods that should be kept cold are at room temperature or warmer for over 2 hours the foods should not be consumed.  If the temperature is over 90 degrees the time is lowered to 1 hour.

Sorry....

Carol
