Question I accidently ate about 1/2 a sandwich that I realized tasted a little odd/sour and noticed on the bottom of the bun, there was powdery green/brown mold on about 1/2 of it (leftover)...will that type of mold make me sick? I feel badly just thinking about it!
Answer Hi Ann,
Mold on food usually doesn't make you ill unless you are allergic to mold -- and that usually produces respiratory problems,
It is not recommended to eat mold as most people do not care for the off flavor mold imparts in foods that aren't suppose to have mold. Secondly, while rare, some molds have been known to produce hair-like projections that can work their way down into soft foods such as bread, fruit, soft cheeses, sour cream, jams, etc. Some have been found to be carcinogenic -- but this is rare.
I doubt you will become ill so relax and just carefully inspect your food from now on.
