AboutSusan Lee Ottevanger, Wellness Coach Expertise There is nothing on earth more important than your
body, your health. With a little knowledge, there is
nothing in life you have more power, more control
over. If you are tired of feeling bad, stop eating
badly. Most of what we eat most of: only a human
mistakes this stuff for food. Distinguish real,
satisfying food from the mere flavored packing
material that keeps you hungry. If you`ve been on
every diet twice and are going crazy, I can give you a
path to Peace in the Kitchen.
Experience In the late '80's my weight up and down reached a crisis. Arthritus in my back made it painfull to move. Balancing blood sugar had me eating more often. Eating more, moving less, miserable. My doctor smiled, said "just move more and eat less". This from a medical professional about to burst his buttons. Not a working plan. I knew I had to write my own, so I started researching what was new to put with what sorta worked for me in the past. Eat protein, eat carbs, just not at the same time. Never go around hungry, listen to your body, it can tell you what it needs.
Question Hi Susan Lee
Is it true that excess beer will give you a big belly or is it just the calories? I cant find a definitive answer.
Some sites say that all calories are equal, but others say that beer actually contains ingredients (hormones?) that cause the midsection to puff out.
I am in my mid thirties and definately showing signs of a beer belly, although I have hardly any body fat.Several of my jock buddies I grew up with look like me. I eat probably less than the average guy-no red meat, low fat, lots of fibre- but play a lot of sports and usually go for beers after.
I have a few friends that are non drinkers or drink only wine, and though not as active as me dont show the beer belly.
I also observed when I was in Europe that although they drink beer, they drink much less. Maybe because its more expensive or has more alcohol? Our American beer goes down like Kool-Aid.
My Dad has a huge belly but he eats less than my mom and played college football and still coaches-in other words very active.
He has always been a beer drinker though. His brother is not a jock and doesnt drink and is toothpick slim, but he outeats my Dad.
Any thoughts appreciated!
Answer Hi Van,
I was in the Island Brewery Tasting Room in California last week for a special vanilla stout event. I saw a guy wearing a T-shirt saying "does this beer belly make me look fat?".
What are you snacking on with the beer? Please don't say you don't remember.
Most American beer should just go back in the horse. Most people who drink it drink a lot of it and do not much else, but drink and eat.
There is a difference in the quality of what goes in the product, but most of the deal is what else you eat and lack of activity.
The older you get, the less you have to eat. When you hit 50, you must immediately eat half of what you are used to. Just a warning.
Out with all refined sugar and refined flour, and try not mixing protein with carbs in the same meal.
