Question Hi my name is nicole i'm a single mother of six and i would like to start a concession stand that sells breakfast and lunch. i all ready have a food mangers license from Washington dc but i live in Columbia Maryland i would like to know if both license are thee sam. and where do i start,along with how doi an expensive truck.
Answer Nicole;
A Food Manager's license is generally only good in the venue it is issued in. Call the health department or city in which you will operate for a list of licenses you will need. There will be many more than just a Food Managers license to operate a food concession operation.
As far as where to start, create a business plan that details what you plan to serve and all the other needs your business will have. Include the type of equipment you must have on your truck or other vehicle. The next step is to watch local newspapers, Ebay, Craig's List and other local and Internet sources for a food truck or vehicle that may serve your needs.
I would also contact the Small Business Administration office in your area for help with everything from start-up loans to programs that assist budding entrepreneurs.
Good luck. Let me know if you have other questions down the road as you get going.
