Question
hey there Jared
im a senior in highschool, I played free safety for my schools team this last season(my senior season) we were undefeated 12-0 winning the section and #3 in the state

I have always been told i should play reciever, that i am too fast and have too good of hands to play defense, I am 6'3" 175 pounds, i bench 240 lbs...power clean 260 lbs, and squat 440 lbs, i have a 42 in. verticle leap and i run a 4.46 forty yard dash, i always get the joke from everyone that i am part black but i am 100% white
so my question is in your opinion would i be more useful in college ball as a WR or a free safety, and i also punted for my team, my longest punt is 84 yards and i average 63 yards a punt so that is another option

Answer
Mark this is a good question.  I know that most college coaches don't care what position you played in high school.  They really only care about your knowledge of the game, work ethic, coachability and most importantly your physical capabilities.  It sounds to me that your physical skills are on par for a D-1 or D-2 recruit!  My gut would tell me that most college coaches would probable move you to a receiver, because of your height.  You don't see to many Safeties that are 6'3 or 6'4 in college or pro football.
Good Luck, PS don't forget to tell Coaches that are recruiting you that you are a talented punter as well.  My old next door neighbor, became a walk on at the University of Kentucky by just sending them a letter and tape of his punting ability.  He later became a scholarship player, and then an all-American and all SEC performer.  He is now with the Chicago bears, his name is Glenn Pakulak.  So don't forget about the option of punting.  COACH NOEL!
