Question Hello sir my name is Erik and I am going into the 11th grade and am competing for the starting quarterback job for my school. My question to you is more psychological than physical, and any way you can help me answer it I will appreciate it. Well the thing for me is I feel I have the ability to start, win the job and play successfully at quarterback. The thing is that I love qbing so much and I want to be successful at it, that I get nervous when I'm performing in something simple as throwing pass routes to receivers. And the only time I get nervous, is when I am uncomfortable around some new people on the team, and when the quarterback coach (who will be making the decision who is the starting qb) is around. My question to you is there any techniques you have to block out this nervousness and uncomfortableness I get when these certain situations are in front of me?
Answer Erik i'm sorry to tell you their really isn't anything that i know of for nerves. I'm 30 years old and I am going through the same thing as you. I have an try out this weekend with the #2 team in the country, for mens softball. I am nervous but im just focusing on doing what I know I can do, and nothing more. My advice is just be you. Be confident in your abilities that have got you this far in life, and football. All the worrying and stress that you are putting on yourself only makes you not concentrate on the task at hand. So let it flow, don't worry about mistakes there going to happen. The worse that could happen is that you are the back up. This means you are only 1 play from being the starter. Remember to have fun and be yourself! COACH NOEL!
