Football Instruction/Wide reciever

Hey  I've played one year of football my freshman year  and still have no Idea to play wide receiver I'm fast and catch but don't no any plays or how to execute them I was wondering if you could teach me how for my sophomore year please anything will help

Hello Isidro,

Congratulations on completing your freshman year of football! It would be hard for me to teach you how to play football (wide receiver) with being there physically to guide you through the process. However, I will give you a few pointers and try to point you in the right direction. I would first suggest you trying to get in touch with some of the upper class men who play your position. Ask them to teach you some of the plays. I know over the summer some of them do non-mandatory workouts. Try your best to participate. Be willing to accept some of their advice. Playing wide receiver is not just about being fast and can catch, it is also about running great routes, understanding when a defense is in a zone, learning who to stop in the openings of the zone and run blocking!! As a former running back, I loved a WR that could block. Also, try to find some of the quarter backs who will be returning. It would be great for you to actually get some work with those guys. Some of the best advice I have ever heard came from one of the great wide receivers, he said, " I always get into my routes the same way. That way the defender doesn't know what I am running." ~Jerry Rice

Good luck and if I can be of further assistance, let me know.

I have been involved in football as a player and/or a coach for over 39 years. I started playing football at the age of 5. A high school standout, a good college career and a stint overseas in the WFL and the NFL Europe. I started coaching youth sports in the off season while playing overseas. This marks my 20th year as a youth coach. I also was a player coach my final playing season overseas. I also worked as a scout, recruiter, asst, OC and head coach on the Overseas pro and Semi pro levels. Recently I worked with a upstart development league as a Asst GM and League Talent Scout. My niche in the coaching forum is a disciplinarian, a motivator and a teacher. This past season, of training my youth, I have 17 of my 22 kids that signed with D-1 schools. Next year, I already have 15 of my next group already committed to D-1 schools. I have served on the Youth Football Committee of San Antonio for 6 years. Recently being appointed as an executive board member.
