Football Trivia (General) - Both feet on turf within the end zone.

Expert: Darrel - 2/6/2009

Question
Let's say a receiver, running towards the sideline within the end zone, catches the ball and then crosses the sideline still running, so he didn't have his both feet on the turf simultaneously, is it a touchdown? In fact, I'm sure it is, but why the rule of both feet doesn't apply in such a situation?

Answer
As long as the receiver had both of his feet hit in bounds, it's a touchdown it does not matter if they happen simultaneously or not. He could leap in the air and one foot hits the ground first, followed by the other, that would be a TD. As long as the receiver running or not has possession of the ball and both feet in at some point, it's a good catch.
