Question I have a 302 V-8 in the truck. 82,000 miles.
Here are my questions:
1. I changed my plugs, wires, rotor, and cap a few weeks ago. Since then, the truck will occasionally "miss," especially when idling and accelerating. Could this be caused by the wrong wires running parallel to each other? If so, which wires cannot run parallel on a 302?
Or, is this problem related to the next question?
2. The truck also surges frequently when idling. It had this problem when I bought it, but it seems to be getting worse. Usually, it happens during city driving when sitting at a traffic light. The surging will last maybe 30-40 seconds, then it will smooth itself out. It may happen again at the next light, or sometimes, it runs great for a while and then gets bad again. It is bery frustrating, especially when it seems to be on the verge of stalling.
The repair history that I know of is as follows:
Fuel lines replaced at 79,000 miles due to rust.
Engine computer in the firewall replaced at the same time due to water leaking past the gasket into the computer.
Answer Mr. Young,
To answer part 2 of your question first, I recommend that you change your fuel pressure regulator, which is on your fuel rail on the driver's side rear.
If you have spark plug wires crossed and touching, it will cause a missing to occur. Make sur that you push all your spark plug wire boots on to make sure that they are tight. Alot of times when you think the boots are on, they are not.
