Ford - Parking Brake

Expert: Ragu - 10/2/2009

Question
I had my parking brake worked on because it wasnt holding. Then I went to apply the brake and the cable on the pedal snapped. I was told at a parts supply that this condition will make the parking brakes wear out  faster. True? And I dont know if it matters or not but this is on a 02 Silerado.

Answer
yes it does matter .first of all its not true it doesn't  wear your brakes down unless you drive with the emg. brakes on.and if you do that you will definitely smell it and the brake light will be on.also your parking brake or emg. brake has to work if you have inspections.and it a safety feature if your main  brakes fail then how else will you stop you vehicle.
