Ford - Alignment Cam Bolts vs. Factory Bolts

Expert: Dusty Granata - 7/7/2009

Question
An alignment shop is telling me that I need to replace my factory bolts with "cam bolts" so that they can do a complete alignment. I have a 2001 ford f150 supercrew, 5.4L 2 wheel drive. These Cam Bolts are for the upper control arms with the ball joints. They want to replace all four bolts for an extra $200. Is this really necessary since these are after market bolt and were not included as original factory equipment bolts?

Answer
if it was on your truck factory stock they don't need to be replaced. cam bolts are an aftermarket replacement that does make doing an alignment easier. don't listen to Monroe or pep boys, they are working on commission. tell the lazy boneheads to do their jobs.
