Ford - torque converter clutch system

Expert: Ken Surerus - 4/10/2005

Question
I have a 97 ford probe 4 cylinder 2 liter automatic. i got a diagnosis done at autozone and the code was p1744 which is torque converter clutch system performance. now when i drive my car for like 25 minutes, my o/d light starts blinking and when i shut the car off and turn it back on, it stops. also sometimes when my car shifts into 1st gear or 2nd or maybe both, when it shifts, its not soft. it has a kick to it. now im wanting to know what i should do about the problems and the code. thanks

Answer
Mr. Cunningham,

If you are starting to get a hard shift it is time to fix your torque converter and your transmission. If you don't do these things, you will blow your transmission up. Hope this helps and if you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Good luck.

Ken
