Question I drive a 1992 Taurus with a 3.8. I am trying to find a cure for my spark knock that it has. I have changed the EGR twice and solenoid, tuned it and fuel filter, timed it,changed intake sensor and mass air sensor, ran premium fuel with octane booster and it still does it,it does not have a knock sensor. It's only when I accelerate and it does not do it all the time?I love the car but the spark knock is getting annoying.I have done everything that Ford and every other shop in town has told me to do and its not working, there has got to be a solution somewhere? Thanks for any help.
Answer Not sure why you would replace the EGR valve and solenoid, uhless there were codes. Is the egr actually working? Are the egr passages clear? Did you remove the SPOUT connector before checking or setting timing?
Spark knock was not really a problem on this engine that I know of. Check total advance, make sure the egr is working correctly, and that the engine is not running too lean.
