Question
My husband pointed out that I missed an important detail in my first post.  The problem that we were having before the check engine light started flashing was the van was misfiring.  Hope this helps to clarify.

Answer
I looked for the question, but failed to find it. Fortunately you provided enough information for me to help. Take the van to your local parts store and have the codes read. If you do this and give them to me, we can get you the exact repairs needed. Other than that, I recommend a complete tune up. Included would be spark plugs(motorcraft only), plug wires(motorcraft of autolite), fuel filter, pcv valve, air filter are all included. The only other possibility is an extreme long shot that the coil pack is defective.
