Ford Repair - stalling

Expert: James - 10/20/2009

Question
My 2002 ford ranger v6 3.0 is stuttering and even stalling once over 3000 rpms. It just died while driving it. May need fuel filter. It will turn over then die.

Answer
I have a rule of thumb for fuel filters. If you cannot remember the last time it was replaced, replace it. Find a way to pull the codes. Obviously it is not drivable, so if you have to, take advantage of your local parts store's return policy. I only advise this in cases of emergency, I deem your case just that. The car is anything but safe to drive. For the money just in towing, you could buy the scanner. Replace the filter, pull the codes, and let me know what they are. With any luck, the filter will fix it.
