Ford Repair - Clutch connection problem

Expert: Tony Florence - 5/15/2009

Question
Hi Tony, Thanks for the help.  92 Ford F-150, 6 cyl. 5 sp. manual tranny truck.  Replace tranny w/used, new clutch.  I used existing clutch slave assy in tranny.  After job DONE tried to connect quick connect of hose to tranny.  Checked all surfaces for burrs, dirt, etc.  O-ring on hose end good.  Retainer clip in trans. quick connect good and tangs set correctly.  White retainer clip there and clean.  When pushed in it does depress into quick connect but tangs on retainer will not clip onto the hose end and hold.  I have tried everything and before taking trans. out again I want to explore all answers.  I figure a PRO may have a simple method for making this thing work.  Some way of pushing it into the fitting by holding his tongue in some correct fashion.  I just cannot get it.  Two days on one two second job...........

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bill

Answer
Hello Bill, check to make sure there are no rough spots and or burrs in the hose end or the slave. Even the pros struggle from time to time with things like this, I know when doing a clutch I will always replace the slave to to make sure I have no suprises. Thanks Tony
