Ford Repair - Runaway Throttle on 1995 FORD E150 w 240000

Expert: Chris - 6/14/2009

Question
Hello. We noticed your info on things, and want to share this inquire. Several times in the last few days, our 1995 Ford E150 van, v8 5.8 Ltr just revs up wildly on starting, and is dangerous to drive. After several restarts, engine itldes normally again, but have you ever heard of this. The engine just takes off like a rocket, as if it is stuck in HIGH acceleration or a defect in the Cruise Control? Anything you could share would be great.

Thanks
James

Answer
hey there, that is an odd problem, try removing the IAC motor and see if the the valve is stuck open, if not, there may be a sevear vacuum leak, this is going to be hard for me to give you a correct diagnosis with out actually seeing this,  also check to see if there is an obstruction in the trottle body and make sure the throttle body plate is ok. let me know what happens,
good luck
Chris
