Ford Repair - engine identification

Expert: James - 6/7/2009

Question
Where would I find the block ID code on a 1970's Ford 460, and how do I find out what it means ?
The motor is in my truck but the motor mount brackets & mounts don't match the bolt pattern on the engine.

Answer
Look either under the distributor, or behind the starter mount location on the block. Clean the are with degreaser and pressure washer, to get an accurate reading. The first digit is the decade, the second is the exact year. I can help decipher it further when you retrieve the code.
