Question
I have a '93 150 with 4x4, 351 and automatic with 140K miles. My question relates to the transmission with noise and shifting. When taking off easy the truck takes its time shifting from first to second and shifts hard at about 3500RPM which seems high just taking off easy, if I take off hard or manually shift it's fine, at highway speed it rarely goes into overdirve and below 60 can shift down without warning. Also when driving, usually when accelerating slightly or with a heavy foot a noise like a pump comes on making a loud whining noise, I think it's coming from the transmission, I can only think to compare the noise to an eclectic fuel pump. Any ideas?  The speedomtor works but not the cruse could it be the speed sensor on the rearend?

Answer
hey there, check if there is a vacuum solenoid on the right hand side of the transmission. there will be one single line coming in off the engine intake manifold. replace this valve if equiped and you shifting should be better. if i not equiped get back to me and i will look into further.
