Ford Repair - Horn wiring problem.

Expert: Tony Florence - 9/29/2009

Question
Hi Tony,
My 1995 ford taurus is giving me some trouble lately. When I start the car, white-ish smoke spurts out of the steering column. Also, my horn has stopped working. I figure there could be some sort of electrical shortage , possible the wire which connects the horn to the fuse box. I know for a fact that it is not a problem with the fuses, because i have had them replaced. I was also wondering how much it would cost to fix the problem. Thanks.

Answer
Hello Paisley, You'll have to check the wiring in the steering column for a short. It may be the turn signal switch or the wiring going to the switch and or sliding contact that gets power to the steering wheel. Depending how much repair needed depends on how much the cost is. Thanks Tony
