Ford Repair - ball joint explorer

Expert: Dave - 11/21/2004

Question
How do I replace the front ball joints on a 98 Ford Explorer? Is this something that is better to be done by a mechanic?

Answer
Replacing the ball joints on an Explorer is not very hard, but it might take you all day.  All of the brake components and the sway bar links must be removed. Then the uppers are replaced as control arm assemblies.  The lowers must be hammered out, and the new ones pressed in.  If you have not done work like this before, it might be a good idea to take the vehicle in for service.

I hope this helps,
Dave
