Question
Hi, Im renting a home on a month to month. The property was sold at auction and the new owners want us out.  I am 6 months pregnant and the new owner told me that that is a "problem" for him and he will keep raising the rent until we move out.  I am also not getting my deposit back.  Who owes me my deposit? How much can he raise the rent? How long do I have to move out? Please help me.

Answer
On a month to month lease you have a locked rent until the end of the month.  The land lord has to give you a one month notice.  They also have the right to raise the rent the next month.  The security deposit was held by the original owner and was transferred to the new owner at closing.  The new owner holds the security deposit.

Search you local city for government help for renters.  Try searching, "renters rights and assistance (the name of the city).  This may give you the help you need.  Look for links to the city web site.

I hope this helps, we will be praying for you.
