Question
I am trying to find the whereabouts of the train station in Auxerre to link up with hire cars and so forth. As we are travelling there from Laroche Migennes, and later, from Auxerre to paris, the rail web site refers to a St Gervai (presumably the name of the station). Another source makes reference to Gare sncf. Neither reference can be found on Google Earth. Can you help. Thank you

Answer
Hi . . . Ngaire!

When plugging Auxerre, France into the Google mapping featuring, I kept enlarging and found their train station on Rue Paul Doumer at the intersection of Avenue de la Toumelle and Rue Jules Ferry in the eastern part of the main town area.

You should be able to find it quickly as I did.  It seems to be a fairly short and easy driving down, directly south, from Migennnes via the roads to the rail station in Auxerre.  You can also use this website to get detailed directions:
http://www.mapquest.com/directions/europe.adp?do=nw

You could also check through a few major car rental companies, such as Avis or Europocar, to find the exact location for their offices in Auxerre.

Does this start to help a little? What are your reactions and needs for added information?  Be happy to provide additional info and answer other questions after learning more from you.  Be sure to complete the evaluation section so that our "bosses" on this volunteer service know we are working hard to make inquiring minds as happy as possible. ENJOY!  Merci Beaucoup!
