France - Paris to Nice

Question
QUESTION: Hi,
Myself and another friend who is also a physician are travelling to France for the first time. We have a total time available of about 6 days. We plan to spend 3 days in Paris and 3 days at Nice and Monte Carlo.
We can get a Air France flight to take us to Nice from Paris and back for about 100 Euros if we book alongwith our international flight. But we were thinking of doing one way with the TGV. Will that be worth it and enjoyable?
How much will it cost? Our dates are October 16th to 21.

ANSWER: Hello Anil

I think the price will be more or less the same

Obviously you will see more countryside with the TGV but it will last around 5 hours.
If you take an early train (around 8am) you will be at Nice around 1.30pm.
to telle the truth, the first 2 hours are not very interesting il begins to be nice after Lyon.

For my opinion, as you have only 6 days, I would take a flight early in the morning, so save time for Paris and Nice (and around).

Have a nice trip

QUESTION: I did look it up. Apparently we land at CDG, Paris in the moring at 8. We can take a connecting flight from there itself at 11.20 and be in Nice at 12.30. We plan to return to Paris on 19th oct, sunday morning. We can take a flight or take the TGV leaving at 6.30 AM to be in Paris at 1 in the afternoon. This would let us avoid traveling all the way back from CGD airport into town. BTW, if we take the flight back to paris then which airport should we prefer, CGD or Orly?

Answer
On Sunday, there is no traffic jam in Paris. The 2 options are OK. I would choose Orly because you have more choices of Air France buses to go to the center of Paris and it is closer to Paris.
So eihter you take a flight more or less as the same hour of your train, and you will be in Paris (I mean at your hotel) around 9.30am
So it is interesting.
If you want to take a later plane, it will be less interesting in term of time saving and the train can be a good option becasue the transfer are quicker.
