Franchising - Estimating expenses

Expert: Joel Libava - 11/6/2009

Question
I an researching starting a Subway location and I am trying to put together a proforma P and L. I would like some ideas on where to get estimates for the types of monthly and annual expenese I should anticipate.
I am estimating approx a 1000 S/F store, and sales of $1000/day. I am also trying to estimate staffing needs. I was thinking I need at least 40 man hours/day.

Are there any resources available to see what typical average expense would be?

Answer
Hi Don, Here is the best way to figure expenses for any franchise opportunity you are looking at;

Call the franchisees.

Ask a few of them what their typical expenses are. Call different part of the country, then get an average.
Good luck!
