About Tony Sansotta
Expertise
I can answer any questions relative to franchising in Canada. This includes legal requirements of franchisors to provide disclosure documents, which provincial jurisdictions have franchise laws, questions to ask franchisors if you are interested in being awarded a franchise, and how to investigate before you invest. I can answer questions relating to franchise agreements. From the franchisor stand point I can provide information on any issues that franchisors face while managing their franchise system. This can include things like how to set up an effective Franchise Advisory Council, how to deal with non-compliance and how to prepare for the termination of a franchisee.

Experience
I have been involved within the franchise industry for over twenty years both as a franchisee and a franchisor. I helped write the Alberta Franchises Act (1995) and have served on the board of directors of the Canadian Franchise Association for five years. I currently provide franchise related services to a number of franchisor clients.

Franchising - What is franchising - is it...

Expert: Tony Sansotta - 4/21/2005

Question
What is franchising - is it for example if you have a pub, in which there is something special to sell the right to somebody to make this thing and take the name of the pub or pub chane?
Does MacDonalds and other big chanes give franchise?

Answer
Franchising accounts for about 45% of GNP so you are probably dealing with franchises every day that you never thought were franchises.  Essentially franchising is done when a company has a product or service that can be standardized with a easily identifiable brand name.  The company invests dollars in the standardization process to ensure that franchisees are given the the greatest opportunity for success.
May restaraunts, including McDonalds are franchised as are service companies such as College Pro painters, Molly Maids, car rental companies.  Franchising is in every sector of the economy.
If you have a particular interest in a restaraunt chain you should contact them for info.
