French Language/indicating the gender of a doctor or lawyer

Question
Hi Caro,

I see that one can say un dentiste for a man and une dentiste for a woman, but is there any way to indicate that my doctor is a woman or that my lawyer is a woman?

Thanks.

Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,

I am sorry for my late reply.
The feminine form is somehow ideological. It is a feminist revendication. Being a woman, I am not always in favor of such modification, because the result is not alway beautiful "for the ear".. Anyway, you can say une dentiste, une médecin. For lawyer : un avocat => une avocate

I hope this helps

Cheers
