Question
Caro,

I thought I heard the following sentence on the radio:

J'étais loins de me douter que la musique provient de Montréal.

My question: If I did indeed hear it as it was spoken, should it have been in the subjunctive? "Provienne?"

Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,

J'étais loin (NO s) de me douter que la musique PROVENAIT de Montréal.

IN MY OPINION YOU SHOULD USE THE IMPARFAIT IN THIS SENTENCE. PROBABLY BECAUSE THERE IS A PAST TENSE INN THE FIRST PART OF THE SENTENCE.

I HOPE THIS HELP
