French Language/la liaison ou non

The following sentences and phrases are from my French readings. Please tell me if you would make the liaison when speaking them.

nous devions aller
ils devaient aller
j'avais été
il ne veut pas y aller
il était au courant
prêt à fonctionner
il était un homme
cela leur était égale
il n'avait jamais osé
sa main immense
je ne devais pas en douter

I have looked at various online sources, but some things just don't sound correct to me when I say them according to the rules.

Hi Mike

I have read several pages on the internet about the liaison to find out a general rule, but I should admit that I don't understand these rules! So here how I pronounce them.

nous devions aller => yes
ils devaient aller => yes
j'avais été => yes
il ne veut pas y aller = I think both are OK. I do not make the liaison.
il était au courant = yes
prêt à fonctionner = NO
il était un homme => yes
cela leur était égale = i would say both
il n'avait jamais osé = both are correct
sa main immense => NO
je ne devais pas en douter => yes

I hope this helps
