About David St
Experience
I have been in the hobby for over three years. I am currently setting up an online business to sell aquatic plants. I have raised and bred guppies, cichlids and goldfish. I currently keep over 200 differnt kinds of fish and over 100 different kinds of aquatic plants. I also have been part of a fish rescue group that take in fish people no longer want. I currently have 16 tanks at home plus two hosptital tanks, 1 snail tank, and a nursery for plants. I work in an aquarium so I have some experience in other areas that I do not feel I am an expert in. The most important piece of information that I would like to convey here is the fact that I love fish and have for many years been rewarded by keeping fish. I would like to be able to help people share the same kind of satisfaction that I have had from keeping fish.

Education/Credentials
BS Business with emphasis in science.

Subject: pangasius catfish

Question
Hi, I have a 46 gallon tank. I have 1 chinese algae eater, 3 giant danios, 3 long finned rosy barbs, 3 long finned zebra danios, 4 neon tetras, and 2 pangasius catfish. All fish are around 2" or smaller. Its been about 3 weeks since I have bought the catfish and they keep laying on the bottom of the tank whenever I see them. They are not moving and swimming around like at the pet store. Please help me with these fish. I am very dissappointed with them because I thought they would be moving around happily . The tempature is 74 degrees F and I change 25% of the water every month. I do not gravel vaccum.

Answer
Hello Mandeep:  Catfish are nocturnal so they lay on the bottom of the tank during the day and are more active at night. The other fish are moving around the tank???? Catfish are more like a utility fish they clean things (but not everything).  You could try to turn the lights down a little bit on your tank. dave
