Question I bought a devonshire dumpling last summer and put it in the border of a garden where it flourished and grew quite quickly. I then cut it right back (just and inch or two from the ground) and then mostly covered the rest with wood chippings as an attempt to prevent any winter harm... it is mid-April now and it is still just an inch of wood sticking out of the ground with no signs of buds or green, how will I know it's time to accept that it's dead?
Answer Hello,You do not say where you are located, I suspect UK, Devonshire Dumpling is a H2 Hardy meaning Hardy with Mulching, so you have done the right thing in your overwintering protection of the plant. Some fuchsias take longer than others to start back into growth, I suggest you wait another 3 or 4 weeks to see if you have managed to keep the plant. In my greenhouses heated at 12 degrees, I still have plants only just starting into growth and Devonshire Dumpling is one of these.I hope this helps, if you require any further information, please contact me again.Kind regards William.
