Expertise
Funeral Law. Having written a 640-page book on funeral law for consumers with state-by-state information, I am very conversant with consumer rights in this regard: What are the laws on disposition of cremated remains? Is embalming required? Do I have to use a funeral home? Can I have a home wake? Is it a state law to buy a vault? I prepaid for a funeral but changed my mind. They won`t give me all my money back. What can I do? . . . etc.

Question
i would love to own this book on Funeral Law. i am in the process of trying to start a consulting service for people who may opt to have home funerals and low impact burials.  tired of the thousands of dollars that get buried every year with absolutely NO  consideration for the person that dies and their loved ones, not to mention the expense that is outrageous for most families to cover. and now wal mart is entering the mix!  i'm disgusted! i live in maine.

Answer
There are already people in Maine starting this on a volunteer basis. Check with the state FCA chapter. Contact information is on the website of the national office-- <http://www.funerals.org/affiliates-directory#ME>

E-mail me directly for a copy of the ME chapter from the '98 edition of the book, now out of print. I don't think a lot has changed. lisa@funeralethics.org
